In the latest issue of the digital magazine of RETEMA (Revista Técnica de Medio Ambiente), an extensive interview to Marc Raventós, director of Sales & Engineering of SPR Group, was published. In it, Raventós reviews the origins of the company, its position in the recycling and waste treatment industry, as well as the forecasts of the future of a sector that is perceived model based on the circular economy and the already recognized four ‘R’ of what should be the new system of use of resources: reduce, reuse, repair and recycle. In this blog article, we will briefly summarize the highlights of the interview to learn more about the current situation in the sector and the company’s future plans.
The origin of SPR Group and its business units
In 2005 the company was formed by a tram of professionals with a long history in the industrial, energy and environmental sectors. The focus on industrial process design and waste treatment would mark the company’s trend in the recycling industry. In this sector, in addition, the company has maintained strong connections with machinery manufacturers and waste managers since its inception, which has allowed SPR Group to achieve important distribution agreements.
At present we have a team of more than 35 people, distributed in our three centres in Spain (Barcelona, Granada and Valladolid) and in our delegation in Mexico City (Mexico DF). The company has three differentiated business units whose purpose is to develop the different business lines. Condeso Consulting, company of the group, forms the first business unit and is in charge oh the design of plants and consulting and engineering services. In addition, it’s also representative of our technology partners.
The second business unit (SPR Industrial Division and Services) leads the integration of plants and project management, in addition to maintenance services and supply of spare parts, where applicable. It holds the manufacturing rights of the Group’s equipment and executes the final assembly and quality control in our workshops.
Finally, SPR Mexico’s mission is to bring the Group closer to the central and southern regions of America to provide the services offered by the other two business units. Its main objective is to meet the growing demand for experience and plant design in the area, especially from the cement industry in the use of alternative fuels. This unit, with the support of the Spanish team, designs and integrates reception facilities for alternative fuels to cement kilns and provides solutions for the recovery of metals.
The position in the recycling industry of SPR Group
The mission of the company has always been to position itself as a leading solution integrator, with the ultimate goal of helping to improve the operating account of our customers, focusing on providing solutions that improve the availability and cost of operation of the facilities, as well as innovate and provide our facilities with maximum efficiency with top level equipment.
In addition, we have always sought to stand out for excellence in our after-sales service through full maintenance services via our service centres and technical assistance.
The recycling industry, key to the circular economy of the future
Still in the midst of a global pandemic due to COVID-19, we have witnessed economic damage in many other industries. Although some areas of the recycling industry have been affected in recent months, the truth is that the sector is stronger and more active than ever, since we are at a crucial moment where global concern about climate change has accelerated certain changes in consumption and manufacturing systems supported by the technological revolution and advances in the design of new types of packaging.
Therefore, the recycling industry will have to be a key sector in the coming years in order to transform the current model into a circular economy. Clearly this will be accompanied by new regulations and legislations, and the companies that the best adapt to it are the ones that will survive. We believe that it will be a sector during the next few years full of challenges and difficulties, but at the same time full of opportunities.
